Tell us about your two hotels?
Currently, our group owns the 81-room Hampton Inn and Suites and the 83-room Candlewood Suites with each hotel serving as a team hotel for the 2019 Greater Houston Football Coaches Association (GHFCA) Bayou Bowl East and West teams. The two properties, located along the northbound feeder of the Interstate 45 have recently undergone extensive interior and exterior property improvement programs (PIP) just in time for the busy summer season. Our Hampton Inn facility has been recognized by Hilton with numerous service awards and was recently ranked #2 in satisfaction and loyalty tracking (SALT) scores out of thousands of Hampton Inns across the country.
Do you own these group of hotels or are there outside investors?
It’s a family group of investors.
Why did you choose League city to invest in your business?
My family and I came to town in 2015 and saw a growing community that was surrounded by communities in the Bay Area that were booming. We saw that UTMB had a good growth plan and was just completing their first phase when we sought to purchase the Hampton Inn and Candlewood Suites, which were two high performing properties available in the area.
Do you have any plans for future hotels?
We recently purchased a piece of property and have plans to build a new 88-room Holiday Inn Express at I-45 and League City Parkway as part of the Epicenter development but we are carefully watching a potential slowdown in the market as well as the opening of new hotels in Texas City, Webster, and La Marque.
What do you see for the future of tourism in League City?
I see the future of tourism really being focused on two markets. The first is medical tourism with the development of the UTMB and M.D. Anderson campuses we are seeing patients and family members traveling from throughout Texas and other states to receive treatment. The second is the pre- and post-cruise leisure market. I think if we can tap into those two sets of travelers, it will be good for League City and the community.
What other fun projects do you have on tap for League City?
We signed a lease for a new 2,800 sq. ft. retail project – Reserve Wine & Spirits – which will be located on League City Parkway across the street from the Kroger development. The new store, projected to open later this year, will feature high-end wine, liquor, and craft beer.
What is your favorite thing about League City?
We like the people. The community has been nice and welcoming to our family and we have found it a nice place to work. We came here for better education opportunities and I think our decision to choose Clear Creek ISD for our kids has paid off.
What is your favorite restaurant?
Our favorite place to go is Jimmy Changas. We think their food is delicious and they provide great customer service.
What is your favorite place?
We do visit a lot of the City’s parks, but Lynn Gripon Park at Countryside has to be one of our most frequented parks, not only for family outings but also events associated with the India Center of Clear Lake (ICCL).
