Golf Cart Ordinance

In July 2011, a new golf cart ordinance went into effect.  The ordinance is less restrictive than state law and was passed with the intent to provide a safe and conducive environment for the responsible operation of motorized carts within the city. 

As part of the ordinance, golf carts must be permitted. 

Permit Process
1.  Print and fill out Registration and Inspection Form for new permit or renewal.
2.  Ensure all requirements are met.
3.  Contact Officer Todd Young at 281-554-1848 or  with questions and to schedule a free inspection by a trained police volunteer (VIP).  Inspections are the second Saturday and third Wednesday of each of month.
4.  Inspection Date:  VIP arrives at your home for inspection.  The volunteer will inspect your golf cart to determine if it has met the requirements.
5.  Take the approved Registration and Inspection Form to the League City Police Department Records Division located at 555 W. Walker Street during business hours:  Monday-Thursday 7:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. and Friday 7:30 a.m.-12 p.m.
6.  The cost for a two-year permit is $50.  Cash, check, money order and credit cards are all accepted forms of payment.
7.  Place your permit sticker in the designated location per the ordinance (Sec. 110-325(1)(f).
