John Butler began his career with the League City Police Department in 1996 after having worked in Florida and in Texas as a police officer prior to coming here and currently holds the rank of Captain. He served in the United States Army in all components. He retired from the Texas Army National Guard holding the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Since 2001 he served 4 combat tours including in Iraq and Afghanistan and was awarded the Bronze Star among other combat awards.

Patrol Sergeant and Patrol Lieutenant
Marine Safety Enforcement Officer
Mental Health Officer
Crisis Intervention Team Member
He graduated from the University of Florida with a BA in Political Science and History. He also graduated from American Military University with an MA in Criminal Justice. He is currently enrolled in the Law Enforcement Management Institute of Texas Module 3. Captain Butler is currently assigned as the Commander Administrative Bureau.
