Arthur Hewitt Volunteer Spirit Award

Art Hewitt, who passed away in 2012, dedicated 61 years of his life to the City of League City community by serving as a volunteer firefighter and inspiring countless others to make a commitment to serve.  The City of League City honors Hewitt and keeps his passion for volunteerism alive through the Arthur Hewitt Volunteer Spirit Award and by declaring August 30 of every year as League City Volunteer Appreciation Day.

Each year, a League City volunteer is presented the Art Hewitt Volunteer Spirit Award for his/her significant contributions of volunteer time and energy to a City project or cause.  

How do I nominate someone for the Award?
Nominations must be submitted via the form located here. 

Current nomination period: July 1, 2016 through June 30, 2017

Nomination Criteria
- Open to all volunteers.
- Nominees do not need to live or work in League City, but must be a volunteer for a city-related cause or project.
- Nominees must have made a significant contribution to League City by volunteering time and service to the City (i.e., such as volunteering at Helen Hall Library, Volunteer Fire Department, Animal Shelter, Leaders Make Readers, Volunteers in Policing, etc.)

Nominations due by Aug. 4, 2017

How are the winners selected?

Winners are selected by a committee consisting of City Council and City staff.
