City Manager - John Baumgartner

Responsibilities

John Baumgartner currently serves as City Manager - the city's Chief Administrative Officer. He is responsible for the daily activities and services of League City, as well as implementing polices set by the City Council.

He was appointed to the position by City Council on Feb. 14, 2017.

Experience

Baumgartner joined the League City team as the Assistant/Deputy City Manager in August 2012. He has more than 29 years of public sector experience with emphasis on:

  • Capital Improvement Programming
  • Engineering
  • Land and Economic Development
  • Public Works Operations
  • Staff Development
  • Strategic Planning
  • Traffic Engineering and Operations
John Baumgartner

He served as the Director of Engineering for the City of Allen prior to joining the League City team. Baumgartner has also served in a variety of positions such as public works director and engineering director in Addison, Texas, and Killeen, Texas throughout his career.

Baumgartner earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Idaho in 1983. He also attended the Public Executive Institute IX at the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs. He is a Texas Registered Professional Engineer.
