Scope of Work

This project will add and modify lanes to improve traffic motions. Approximately 230 linear feet was added by TxDOT to the existing left turn lane and a dual left turn lane will be added southbound on SH3 at the FM 518 intersection. Approximately 400 linear feet will be added to an existing left turn lane on northbound SH 3 at the FM 518 intersection and converting an existing through lane on northbound SH 3 and the FM 518 intersection into a second left turn lane. A new right turn lane to northbound SH 3 at the FM 518 intersection will be included. An additional 180 linear feet will be added to the existing left turn on eastbound FM 518 at the SH 3 intersection with a raised curb median. A right turn/through lane will be converted to a 460 linear foot right turn lane on westbound FM 518 at the SH 3 intersection. An additional 110 linear feet will be added to the left turn lane on westbound FM 518 at SH 3 intersection. Traffic access management measures will be implemented with raised curbs.

Project Status as of August 2022

The goal is to complete design and right-of-way acquisitions by the end of 2022 or early 2023, and construction is expected to begin in the second half of 2022.

Original Schedule

The original schedule, as of September 2019, shows the design phase of the SH3 & FM518 Intersection Improvements project to begin in quarter 4 of 2019 through quarter 3 of 2020. Land acquisition is scheduled to begin quarter 2 of 2020 through quarter 3 of 2020. Construction bidding is scheduled for quarter 4 of 2020 with construction following beginning in quarter 1 of 2021 for a year and a quarter. Construction time is an estimate as each bid is awarded based on cost and time submitted by the contractor.

Current Schedule

The current schedule, as of December 2021, shows the traffic counts and design options phase of the SH3 and FM518 Intersection Improvements project began in quarter 1 of 2020 and completed in quarter 3 of 2020. TxDOT reviewed and approved the improvements in quarter 4 of 2020. Design of the preferred option began in quarter 1 of 2021 and continues in progress through quarter 2 of 2022. Land acquisition is scheduled to begin in quarter 1 of 2022 through quarter 3 of 2022. Construction bidding is scheduled for quarter 3 of 2022 with construction following and beginning in quarter 3 of 2022 through quarter 2 of 2023. Construction time is an estimate as each bid is awarded based on cost and time submitted by the contractor.
