What is Birding? 

Birding is the observation of birds in their natural habitat and is one of the fastest-growing hobbies in North America. There are more than 50 million birders in the US, according to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Many birders use field guides, and keep notebooks where they log information about the birds they find. Think of it as a different spin on a treasure hunt.

League City and the Great Texas Coastal Birding Trail 

The Great Texas Coastal Birding Trail runs the entire length of the Texas Gulf Coast and is home to more than 450 species of birds. Birding enthusiasts search for birds throughout the parks, nature preserves, and bird sanctuaries along the trail. It shouldn’t be too hard to spot them, as Texas is home to more bird species than any other state in the United States. League City sits on the Upper Texas Coast portion of this trail, and is home to hundreds of bird species, making it the perfect place for birding.

The Clear Lake Loop 

If you want to search for birds in the League City area, a great place to start is with the Clear Lake Loop. There are about 15 sites within this loop that are ideal for birding, including the Dr. Ned and Fay Dudney Nature Center, Armand Bayou Nature Center, Walter Hall Park, and Challenger 7 Memorial Park.
