Citizen Police Academy

Overview

The Citizen Police Academy was formed in League City in 2002. It gives residents an opportunity to see how and why the League City Police Department operates as it does. There is a spring and fall class every year and the course is 13 weeks long with meetings once a week.

Application

Applicants must be employed in League City or be a resident, at least 18 years of age, have a valid driver's license, and pass a background check. The next class will begin on August 17. Applications (PDF) can be scanned and emailed, sent by USPS mail, or turned in at the police department.

Instruction

Some of the classes include:

  • Family Violence
  • Criminal Investigations
  • Traffic Law
  • SWAT Operations
  • Use of Force
  • Patrol Procedures
  • Firearms Safety and a Range Day

Attendees are also put through mock traffic stop scenarios which cover incidents officers might face on duty.
