frozen pipe

Thousands of homeowners across League City are dealing with broken pipes caused by the freezing temperatures over the last few days. If you have a broken pipe, here are the steps you are advised to take.

  • First, locate the water supply valve to your home and shut off the supply. The shut off valve is most often located inside or near the garage or on the side of your home near the first spigot. If you experience a water pipe break and cannot locate or shut off the main water supply valve to your home, call the City's Line Repair Department at 281-554-1390.
  • If you have returned to your home and have no water, your water supply may have been turned off by City employees because of a leak to your home or your neighbor’s home. Call the City's Line Repair Department at 281-554-1390.
  • Notify your insurance agent and take picture of any damage caused to you home and belongings.
  • Call a plumber. Make sure you call a licensed plumber and ask to see their license.
  • Make sure your plumber gets a permit to perform work to your home. The City is currently waiving all fees for broken pipe repairs. Ask your plumber to see the permit.
  • One the repairs are made the City will come inspect the work before water is turned back on at your home. Make sure your plumber gets the proper inspection before paying him or her.
  • Be aware of price gouging. The cost of a plumber ranges from $175 to $450 for a typical job with the average cost per hour ranging from $45 to $200.
