9 AM 9/14 UPDATE FROM NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE
Nicholas has been downgraded to a tropical storm. The storm made landfall early this morning on the eastern part of the Matagorda Peninsula, about 10 miles west-southwest of Sargent Beach, Texas. Heavy rains and winds are moving throughout our region and are expected to persist through the morning. Between 6 and 8 inches of rain has fallen across the city in the last 24 hours. There is localized street flooding throughout the City as well as tree branches and power lines down at various locations. Be careful on the roadways.
CITY FACILITIES AND SERVICES IMPACTED BY TROPICAL STORM NICHOLAS (updated 9/14 at 9:30 a.m.)
CITY FACILITES ON WALKER REMAIN CLOSED: City facilities on Walker Street are still without power and remain closed. This includes City Hall, the Helen Hall Library, Civic Center, Municipal Court, and City Hall annex.
Hometown Heroes Recreation Center has power and will reopen at 10 a.m. City parks are still being evaluated for high water and downed tree limbs. They remain closed for now. The City will reevaluate the situation at noon to see if power is restored and if facilities can reopen.
Delayed Trash Service Tuesday: AmeriWaste will collecting trash on Tuesday, September14, but will not start running crews until 11 a.m. There will be no recycling pickup.
Court Session Canceled: The session scheduled for Tuesday, September 14 at the League City Municipal Court has been canceled.
Senior Lunch Canceled: Senior Lunch Service at the Hometown Heroes Recreation Center has been canceled for Tuesday, September 14.
