The Vegetation Management Division of Public Works has partnered with the League City Garden Club to plant native wildflower seeds in the median on League City Parkway just east of SH 3.
The League City Garden Club started the wildflower median planting in 2012. The results each year have varied depending on the time the seeds were planted, how many seeds were planted, and the weather conditions. The Vegetation Management Division of Public Works was created in 2019 and began assisting the Garden Club with the wildflower project by rototilling the soil each spring. The two teams worked together this year to do some research with the Texas Department of Transportation’s Wildflower Program. As a result, it was decided to do a fall planting with native seeds ordered from Texas suppliers. Now that the seeds have been planted, the mowing of the site will be halted until the wildflowers bloom and set seed for next year’s flowers.
