[ARCHIVED] Quilters Needed ASAP for Project to Honor Veterans

League City is partnering with local quilters Mitzi Leatherman and Sheryl Hayslip-Bahena on a project dedicated to honoring Veterans in the Galveston Bay Area. The Bay Area Veterans Quilt Project aims to provide quilts to hundreds of Veterans and families of Veterans at the City’s Veteran’s Day celebration on November 11.

Mitzi, a Navy Veteran, and Sheryl, owner of Teo’s Treasures quilt shop in Dickinson, have been hard at work making the quilts and recruiting other quilters. Significant help is needed to reach their goal of presenting more than a hundred quilts to Veterans and their families.

We are calling on all quilters to consider creating a quilt to donate to the project and show our Veterans how much they are appreciated. The quilts can be patriotic-themed, but all designs are welcome. The group is accepting basic quilts, panel quilts, and quilts with elaborate designs. You can even donate an unfinished quilt and Teo’s Treasures will finish it for you.

The quilts will be on display in City facilities starting in October. Please drop off quilts as soon as possible.
