September is National Preparedness Month

Emergency Prep kit

While hurricane season may be off to a slow start this year, hurricanes can spin up in the Gulf with little notice and it’s important to have your emergency plan ready. September is National Preparedness Month and is also the peak of hurricane season. It’s the perfect time to ensure your home and family are equipped for emergencies. For details on how League City prepares for emergencies, visit our Office of Emergency Management page here: https://www.leaguecitytx.gov/3991/Emergency-Management

Make a Plan.

It’s hard to plan for the unknown, which is why it’s recommended to prepare for the worst and hope for the best. You need a plan for potential evacuation, a plan for your pets, and how you will communicate with your family. Use the online Plan Form at Ready.gov to create a file with pertinent medical information and emergency plan details. Once complete, it will email you a PDF of the file for your digital and print records. The information you provide is not saved, stored or shared by any government agency.

Build a Kit.

When a disaster strikes, you may not have easy access to clean water or food. It’s important to ensure you have enough water and food on hand for your family, including pets, along with other items like batteries, first aid kit, flashlights, and medications.

  • Water: You need one gallon of water per person, per day for drinking and sanitation. Learn more about determining your emergency water needs here.
  • Food: You should have enough food to last several days. Find suggested non-perishable emergency food items here.

Stay Informed.

The League City Office of Emergency Management wants to ensure every resident receives timely emergency information. The best way to make sure you are informed is to sign up for our Emergency Notification System. You can choose how you want to be notified: by text, phone call, email, or all three. Our Emergency Management & Communications teams will send alerts when a situation requires immediate attention or poses an immediate threat.
