Garden Club and City Team Up to Plant Wildflowers
Recently, The League City Garden Club and the Vegetation Management Division of Public Works teamed up to plant native wildflower seeds under the power line easements at Hometown Heroes Park. The freshly planted areas are just over one acre in size. Now that the seeds have been planted, the mowing of the site will be halted until the wildflowers bloom and set seed for next year’s flowers.
The Garden Club started planting wildflower seeds at the corner of SH 3 and League City Parkway back in 2012. The results each year have varied depending on the time of year the seeds were planted, how many seeds were planted, and annual weather conditions.
This year marks the first time that the Garden Club has completed a wildflower seed planting at Hometown Heroes Park. All of the wildflower seeds are native and ordered from Texas suppliers. Now we wait to see what comes up from the ground next Spring.
