[ARCHIVED] LCPD Receives Donation of K9 Safety and Medical Kits

The League City Police Department has two new items to better ensure the safety of its K9 units. Protection4Paws and AceK9 recently donated the Ultimate K9 Safety Kit and the K9 medical kit to LCPD Officer Owen McIntyre and his dog Xar.

The K9 medical kit, or buddy bag, contains medical items that a K9 officer can use in the event of an emergency that will help stabilize their K9 partner while they wait for medical services to arrive.

The Ultimate K9 Safety Kit, which includes the Ace K9 Hot and Pop System, is placed inside the K9 officer’s patrol car.  If it gets too hot or reaches a certain pre-programmed threshold, the system will notify the officer via a phone call.  In addition to monitoring the vehicle’s interior temperature, the system is designed to turn on the patrol car’s overhead lights and roll down both windows. For an extra layer of protection, the system will turn on a fan located on the door that circulates cool air throughout the car.

“The biggest thing that these tools do for me is give me peace of mind for when I’m with my dog and if something happens, I know have the tools and ability to take care of Xar,” said Officer McIntyre.
